Hope you all had a Happy Father’s Day weekend. The kids and I went to visit my dad while my hubby had a relaxing weekend of golf. I got Dad some coffee beans (he loves grinding his own) and pistachios. Plus, a greeting card I wrote. Did I mention I write greeting cards? I have been writing greeting cards every week for the past seven years. And I like to think I have a knack for Father’s Day cards because this guy has given me lots of inspiration! (And creative curse words.)
This is the little gem I gave my dad. He was a direct inspiration, though it would have been more accurate if it depicted the dad herding cattle. The things that come out of his mouth! It would make a sailor blush. But, in his defense, it’s pretty difficult to get cows to do anything they don’t feel like doing. I thought for Tuesday Treasures this week, I’d share a little bit of my work. Here are a few of my cards from over the years…
Inspiration in the strangest of places.
(The inside of this says, “And getting older is the sand in your butt crack.”)
I was speaking from experience here. I am also highly skilled at blowing into Nintendo cartridges to get them going again.
The inside says, “Oh, what the hell, and some sprinkles, too.” Or something like that. But, who cares? Donuts!
My favorite of all time! I’m always so happy when I see this on shelves for Mother’s Day again and again. Even though I have momentary flashbacks of choking down soggy canned peas at my mother’s insistence, I’m glad it resonates with so many people!
There you go! A little glimpse into my working life for the last seven years. Sometimes when I’m frantically searching for a picture of a monkey’s ass to go with a piece of writing at midnight on a Sunday before my deadline, I stop and think, “Is this really my life?” And I’m always happy that it is! Even though it isn’t the noblest of callings, I like knowing that I’m putting stuff out in the world that can make people smile and help them connect to one another. It’s a good feeling. Or, as my dad might say, it’s a f#$%ing good feeling.
